MRI is an imaging technique with the ability to provide diagnostic information by utilizing strong magnetic fields and weak radio waves to obtain information from hydrogen nuclei in the body.

During the procedure the patient does not feel or sense the magnetic field or radio waves. However, the patient will hear "knocking" noises that indicate that the scan is in process.

It is necessary for the patient to remain motionless during the procedure which can last from thirty minutes to an hour. Once the scan is complete, the patient can resume normal activities.
